Summer’s last long weekend is quickly approaching, gifting us with one more chance to soak up the sunshine and savor all that that the season has to offer. From waterfront strolls and outdoor art to tennis, live music and oysters with a view, Lower Manhattan offers an abundance of ways to enjoy Labor Day weekend.
Here are a few experiences to add to your itinerary:
* Spend a few hours on Governors Island. Just a short ferry ride from Lower Manhattan, Governor’s Island is an idyllic escape from the city without really leaving it and Labor Day weekend is the final weekend of the island’s extended summer hours.
On Saturday, September 5, visitors can join a guided Public Art Tour at 11:45 a.m., enjoy a free Marta Blanco Ensemble jazz performance from 3–5 p.m., or experience the wonderfully New York Cardboard Pizza Puppet Circus from 3–6 p.m.
You can also opt to enjoy the island at your own pace. Rent a bike, pack a picnic, settle into a hammock at Hammock Grove or take in the harbor and skyline from the Hills. The ferry is approximately 12 minutes from The Beekman Hotel.

* Experience the Seaport Racquet Club. With the US Open well underway, tennis fever has made its way to Lower Manhattan. The Seaport Racquet Club brings the excitement to Seaport Square through September 13 with a full-size tennis court, clinics, match viewing, special programming and tennis-inspired experiences throughout the neighborhood. * Visit DAYDREAM at the Balloon Museum. Recently opened inside the Tin Building, the Balloon Museum makes its New York debut with DAYDREAM – Air Becomes Art. side the Tin Building with its inaugural New York exhibition, DAYDREAM – Air Becomes Art. This interactive exhibition transforms air into an artistic medium through large scale installations and immersive works designed to inspire a sense of wonder.

* Explore the historic Seaport. Sometimes the best New York plans are the simplest ones. Wander the Seaport’s cobblestone streets, stroll along the waterfront and stop by the South Street Seaport Museum, to discover the neighborhood’s maritime history.

* Spend an afternoon at The Battery. At the southern tip of Manhattan, The Battery offers gardens, sweeping harbor and Status of Liberty views, and the whimsical SeaGlass carousel.
On Sunday, September 6th, the park will also welcome WonderSpark Puppets for a family-friendly performance your little ones will enjoy.

* Take a sunset walk along the waterfront. As summer winds down, savor the evenings with a walk along the water.
Begin at the Seaport, make your way toward Pier 17 and continue along the East River as the sun begins to set over the city. With views of the Brooklyn Bridge and the Waterfront unfolding along the way, it’s one of the quintessential late-summer New York experiences.
